HEART TO HEART Heart to heart, I somehow got lost along the way, Swore to myself to never get tangled up in the fray, But sometimes swearing it off isn’t how it should go, I’ve done it so many times, trust me, I would know, Thought I learned my lesson, but maybe I never will, Damn these reflections, now I have eternity to kill, Don’t let the vanity in heartache be the lasting truth, Hang on to the innocence forgotten from our youth, I was asked if I loved you, and answered with a laugh, But on the inside, I was crying, remembering our past, You were the best of me, with you I could be found, Yet here I am today, barely afloat in a sea so unsound, Heart to heart, I’m not sure I can take this anymore, I feel life is leaving me, making its way out the door… -brad

THE MAN WHO DIED LONELY His beating heart, Was beaten apart, And prying eyes know it’s true. He was visibly shaken, By so much mistaken, As denying lies kept coming from you. Where does one go, When the heart beats with sorrow? Loneliness, what was he supposed to do? It’s a selfish world, so unforgiving, But he deserved a life worth living, Yet you had to take that from him, too. BELIEVER I don’t remember if her eyes were blue, brown or green, But I recall their shimmer with summer’s splendid sheen, She took a cynical, hardened heart, and made it melt, I don’t remember much, but I remember how it all felt, Her soft touch made me shiver with such a sensual ease, A beautiful creature, who could drop me to my knees, Crashing into a momentary lapse of innocence’s truth, The very same innocence that we often find in our youth, And so, it became the story of a boy’s crush for a girl, She took my heart, made it a believer, sending it awhirl, Where she is today, is one thing I’ll probably never know, Despite her absence, the fondness in my heart only grows, I don’t remember if her eyes were blue, brown or green, But I do know, she’s the most beautiful girl I have ever seen… -brad

ROYALTY (HIGH SCHOOL ANTHEM) We were all Kings and Queens, with remarkable dreams, that steered us along the way… Born from such stellar notions, we caused quite a commotion, as we kept those dreams in play… Now divided by years and miles, and everchanging lifestyles, we still have so much left to say… Memories I hope we never forget, and times I hope we never regret, remember to always seize the day. -brad

THE FRAGILE THEORY There are days I wish I could still be in love with you, And hold you close to me, as if we never knew, Love is perfected agony, draining my heart and soul, By all accounts, I’m losing my grip on self-control, This terrible persistence of misery, I fear it so much, The persistence of your memory is my saving crutch, I once held onto the fragile theory of setting love free, But the thought of hope has never been a friend to me, Hopeless dreamer, why did you do me that way? Because of you, I can no longer find the words to say, I shatter like a porcelain figurine on a hardwood floor, But I believe that I matter to someone, just not you… Just not to you anymore. -brad

SLOW BURN It’s an agonizing slow burn, edging closer to my core, To tell the truth, I can’t keep fighting this anymore, All the gifts I’ve been given have been taken away, And I can’t really make sense of who I am today, I apologize for never being what was expected of me, To each his own, but they just wouldn’t let that be, I’ve been abused by the words they failed to speak, And they took away my will, whenever I was weak, Wanting to control me, like a puppeteer pulling strings, At the expense of my happiness, and all that it brings, Life seems to be mounting into a moment of despair, And you can’t save someone who is no longer there, My heart has been devastated in a myriad of ways, And the slow burn surrounds me, it’s a matter of days… -brad

VANISHING SOULS Smother me, so that I might breathe like I did before, Hold me close, as I crash tonight on your bedroom floor, Be the cure to this disease that plagues my head, You don’t have to love me, just be a friend instead, Pieces of me are vanishing with every oncoming night, And with each wave, I come closer to ending the fight, I’m starting to believe it’s what this world wants from me, I think it’s exactly how the past wants the future to be, If I scream out tonight, will you listen to my heart’s cries? SEPTEMBER SKIES I don’t want to pretend anymore, I keep hiding behind words, When the truth is… the truth is how bad it all really hurts, How do I separate myself from the years of heartbreak I feel? Knowing that it’s your touch, it’s your touch that helps me heal, Under September skies, I still breathe for you, to this very day, I have never loved like I love you in such a deep, profound way, There is no past tense for love, because honest love never dies, And shades of blue remind me of you, eyes like September skies, I dream of going home, for home is in the chambers of your heart, I want to feel again everything I felt with you from the start, Time and space might divide us, but it still feels like you are here, May the memories of you never leave me, for I will keep you near, Let me just fade away in bliss, for the truth of it all never lies, I will just lay here, looking upwards, dreaming of September skies… -brad

TERRIFIED WHISPERS I am just a whisper, one nobody is willing to hear, Just a terrified whisper in great need of an ear, Reluctant words that are too afraid to come out, A wariness overwhelming me with so much doubt, I must not believe that voice inside my head, The one often telling me I’m far better dead, Better for me, better for all, and that includes you, I don’t always know where to turn, or what to do, Where do you go when desperate for a friend?
